I've spent most of my working life making things work.
Since 1995, my work has moved between technology and business: building systems, taking responsibility for existing ones, solving problems and helping organisations make sound decisions about the technology they depend on.
I combine business judgement with genuine technical understanding — and I tend to stay with problems until they are actually solved, not just documented.
My primary business focus is The Buffalo Company.

My experience spans business ownership and leadership, software development and technical architecture, infrastructure and technology operations, and the building and management of business systems. It also spans people — working with teams and organisations of different sizes and temperaments.

How I tend to work.
I prefer understanding a problem properly before proposing a solution. I would rather repair something that works than replace it for novelty, and I am suspicious of complexity that exists mainly to impress. Most of the value I have added has come from judgement, not from cleverness.
I am comfortable taking responsibility — for systems, for decisions, and for the consequences of both. I find that is rarer than it should be.
Outside of work.
I have interests beyond technology and business — though I am not sure a personal website is the place to catalogue them. If we meet, ask me. I am generally happy to talk about most things, and patient enough to listen to the rest.
